LCJ3
Focused on waste reduction, the designer stumbled upon a bootleg version of the renowned LC3 chair at a recycling shop, albeit with severely worn seat and armrests. Deciding to embark on a redesign, they chose to work with the remaining frame. While the original LC3 chair is celebrated for its geometric and rigid structure, the aim was to craft a design that blends structure with fluidity. In their redesign, they opted to leave all surfaces, except for the seating and armrests, as voids to enhance the chair’s aesthetic lightness and reduce its overall weight. This deliberate choice ensures accessibility from any angle for users. Furthermore, all materials utilized in the redesign were reclaimed from the woodshop and discarded floor panels, underscoring the project’s commitment to sustainability through upcycling.
